Sign up to become a Spat Catcher in the Lynnhaven River! You will hang one or three cages that are less than one foot cubed off of your dock (or your neighbor's) for the summer and see how many baby oysters settle on the shells or alternate substrate in your cages. All you have to do is shake the cage around in the water every few weeks and you will be raising oysters that will filter the Lynnhaven River for the rest of their lives. Plus you will be helping us with an experiment to see which kinds of substrate oysters will settle on. This program took off in Norfolk's Lafayette River---let's see if we can get even more spat catchers in the Lynnhaven! Cost for all materials for three spat catchers is $25. For more information or to register, contact Kris McKinnon at kris@lynnhaven2007.com or 757-962-5398. You must pre-register and registration ends June 14th.
