Virginia League of Conservation Voters Unveils 2013 Conservation Scorecard!
Voting records on key conservation legislation before the Virginia General Assembly were used to calculate scores. 9 Senators and 17 Delegates, the majority of which represent Northern Virginia localities voted 100% of the time in favor of conservation and have been designated by the group as Conservation Heroes. 4 heroes highlighted below, represent Tidewater localities.
Senator Kenny Alexander District 5 - Parts of Chesapeake & Norfolk; Senator John Miller District 1 - Parts of Hampton, Newport News, York County, James City County, Suffolk and all of Williamsburg; Delegate Jeion Ward - District 92 - Part of Hampton and Delegate Mamya BaCote District 95 - Parts of Hampton and Newport News.

Avoiding a Collision Course among Ocean Giants
Tidewater Current | Spring 2013 - Historically considered the giants of the sea, whales are literally dwarfed in size and number by a growing fleet of supersized vessels. No match for fast moving mechanical behemoths, a whale is likely to pay with its life if the two collide. To alleviate the threat posed by collisions, research is being conducted and protective measures afforded by the now 40 year old Marine Mammal Protection Act are being developed and adopted.
